Nurse Kat's Blog

A place to keep you motivated and inspired

HOME

Welcome!
In Health Care, before you can take care of someone else you need to be able to take care of yourself.  I am envisioning a place where Health Care Students can go to and take some time to focus on themselves,  get study tips, find updates on medical advances and find a place to cope with stress. Alas, this Health Care Student Break Room  is the purpose of my blog.
I am a student in the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program and also an Instructor for Health Care Aides. I view the spectrum from both ends and so, I have a couple sections dedicated to my PIDP community and also a place for instructors to view some information on technology in the classroom.

As a nurse, I strongly believe that health is more than the physical being free of disease. Health and wellness encompasses 5 determinants of health; being the individuals intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and social well-being. Rick Hanson once said ” I realized back then that my biggest disability was my attitude.”
So, My Dear Reader, hopefully somewhere in the blog we can enrich at least one of the 5 determinants in your life and keep you inspired.

  1. Hi Nurse Kat! Great job on your blog!
I have added your blog as a link on my own blog page and I hope that is ok. I am also a student in your PIDP class and I am a fellow Nurse and HCA instructor. My blog is aimed at being an informative and supportive place for anyone teaching, working as, or working along side Health Care Aides, so I thought that your blog is a great resource for whoever is accessing my blog too 🙂

  2. Hi Kat, I enjoyed reading your blog and agree that in order for RN’s and others in the Health Care Industry to do their job well and not get run down by disease they must combat stress effectively. I have found the following to be great stress relievers: practicing yoga regularly, meditation (the body scan method is especially effective should you suffer from insomnia). Other things you can do to combat stress are to attend workshops and seminars. I am a big believer in the Insights Personality tests. These tests break down your personality traits and work as well as in social situations and these tests give you the tools required to affectively work with those who are your polar opposite in a positive way.
